The Week in Review #25: Jason Crabb Wins Big at the Doves, L5 Releases New Music Vid, and More…

*Hat tip Lauren’s View From the Pew for a complete list of southern gospel Dove Award winners. The big news is that Jason Crabb took home both Artist and Male Vocalist of the Year. Hearty congrats to a talented artist and one of the nicest guys in the industry! Other notable southern gospel wins include the Collingsworth Family for long form music video (Fear Not Tomorrow) and Doug Anderson for country album (Dreamin’ Wide Awake). Congratulations to all! Also, this isn’t SG news, but I was personally pleased to see that Laura Story’s “Blessings” took home Song of the Year. Something would have been very wrong if it hadn’t.

*Brian Crout finished off his mammoth project of ranking the top 100 albums in his southern gospel collection. Click here to see which project took the #1 spot!

*Chuck Colson is at death’s door, soon to be with the Lord. Prayers are in order for his family.

*Ashamed and Disappointed. Tim Challies offers a sobering few words on abortion, inspired by his recent experience watching some protestors outside a clinic.

*Legacy Five released their concept video for “Ask Me Why” yesterday (thanks to Josh for pointing this out). Josh also pointed out that it happened to come out a year to the day after a post I wrote noting the lack of southern gospel music videos (which has interestingly become one of my most-visited posts over the lifetime of the blog). Unlike most southern gospel songs, this song tells a story and hence lends itself to a concept video. The coloring seems a little washed-out in some places and over-saturated in others, and I think they could have done more with the second half of the song, but this is definitely one of the best SG music vids I’ve seen. Take a listen/look:
